SIBLEY PARK ROAD

Extension and alterations 2018 - 2019

The existing 4 bedroom detached house had a poor layout separating family into confined spaces, a dilapidated conservatory blocking light in the living room, and a long thin kitchen. The extension added all-year round space, while reconfiguring the internal layout provided a cohesive family home.

On the ground floor, the entire rear of the existing house was opened to the extension to form an open plan kitchen, living and dining area with sliding doors that can be opened up to the garden in summer. The remodel of the first floor enlarged all bedrooms and allowed for a fifth bedroom with second en-suite.

Construction started in March 2018 and is nearing completion Oct 2019. To keep costs down, I undertook the work myself with friends and family helping along the way. This prompted the use of Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) BECO (https://becowallform.co.uk/) as a method I could easily construct myself. The process has been both challenging and rewarding. It has strengthened my skills as an architect because I have a greater appreciation of client and contractor perspectives.

Current budget for all the working including external works £135,000 (original budget £120K)
